A History of English Architecture  for Harper Collins is Simon’s most important project, due to be completed in 2010 The book will tell the story of England through its buildings. It explains the world around round us today: why this country looks as it does; how over a thousand years this small island has come to be distinctively different from its European neighbours and how a tiny country made a huge architectural impact on the globe.

This is not a history book chronicling the twists and turns of architectural style crammed with dates and the names of obscure architects. It sets out to ask why places were built, why they changed and to show how architecture is, in fact, an expression of the way we live. As a consequence, although it covers palaces and cathedrals, it also considers terraced houses, coal mines and airports.

The Architecture of the Tudor and Stuart Court: This major project will update and supersede Simon’s 2003 book The Royal Palaces of Tudor England and extend its findings to cover the Stuart period up to 1714.

Sir Christopher Wren: Royal Architect: This is a biographical study of Wren as royal architect. Drawing on a detailed knowledge of his royal commissions and his work at court. The work only covers Wren’s work at Courtier and will not cover work elsewhere. This work is in preparation.
